The Nashville Jazz Orchestra will pay tribute to Billy Adair, a beloved instructor at Vanderbilt and an important part of Music City’s jazz canvas, on Sunday April 27, 2014.  The concert will begin at 6:00 pm, at the Blair School of Music (2400 Blakemore Avenue).  Ticket prices:  students — free; senior (65+) and Vanderbilt faculty and staff — $15; general admission — $20. Among the guests performing with the NJO are Sarah Edmonds, Liz Johnson, Molly Jewell, Sarah Williams and Matt Belsante, all who cite Mr. Adair’s influence in the jazz community as a major component of their own careers.

Mr. Adair, who died in February, valued the basics and the roots of big band jazz. The program for the evening will center on jazz standards from the great American Songbook in the NJO’s tribute to its closest friend. Mr. Adair taught the standards, arranged them for big band with vocals, and instilled in his band members and singers a love and appreciation for an era of music that will always be the cornerstone of jazz and pop music.
